Taustalla näkyy myös naapuritalon kattoa, ulkona on tooodella kaunis ilma, mutta kauhee tuuli!!
Sukka on itselleni hieman liian kapea - varsinkin nilkan jälkeen, muuten saajan jalat ovatkin just eikä melkeen samanlaiset kuin omani. =D

Austermann's Step yarn, really beautiful colours! Beneath, out the window there's the roof of the naighbouring house - which is actually frosting!! In bright daylight... Hrrrrr...
The sock is a little too narrow for me, but had to try it on, bcs the receiver's feet are exactly the same as mine, except for the calves... =D

I met up with Muoriska last Friday for a little chat over a cup of.. well something else than coffee.. And she got me sooo inspired that I joined the waiting list as well. See my current situation at the moment. So, there's going t obe some waiting, but I'm not the only one, I know =D

Tänään kävin myös shoppaamassa.. Thermalia varten lisää Pirkkaa ja lisäksi salaisuuksia ;-D Onneksi oli vielä aiakin tarpeeksi sitä fuksianpunaista ohuempaa Pirkkaa. Ja vieläkin jäi jos vaikka tulis uupelo..

Samalla reissulla täytin kansalaisvelvollisuuteni ja kävin Veripalvelussa. Siitä jää aina hyvä mieli. Ja nyt flunssakautena kaikkien terveiden luovuttajien veri on erittäin tarpeen. Menkäähän muutkin jotka kynnelle kykenette oman paikkakuntanne toimistoon tai liikkuvan palvelun tempaukseen!

I also went shopping today. Three more hanks of Pirkka-yarn for my Thermal and some secrets.. I was lucky enough to find my colourway - they just had gotten a shipment in the shop, so there was more than enough of fuchsia-pink yarn.

On the same trip I went to the Finnish Red Cross Blood Donation office to give my donation. It always leaves me with very good feeling. And at the moment as the flue and cold season is still going strong in Finland all healthy doners are needed.

SNY-tempauksen loppu lähenee, Sukkasato loppuu ja tietysti Lokakuun loppu (mikä tuo tullessaan vyökokeen ja gradun kirjallisuusanalyysin näin muilla elämän aloilla).

October is soon over and with it at least one KAL (the Finnish Sock Harvest) - and the end of the month brings my 2nd Black Belt Examination closer and closer...

Tänään postimies soitti ovikelloa yhdeksän aikaan -epäili ilmeisesti ettei SNY-paketti olisi mahtunut postiluukusta, mutta kumminkin samantien kolahti =D Ja kaikkea ihanaa oli paketissa:

Ruskea-teemainen paketti: 2 kerää Granstudion Alpacaa (ihanan tuntuista, jälleen uusi tuttavuus), teetä (ihanan mausteinen tuoksu tulee teepusseista, musteena omenaa ja kanelia), Iso virkkuukoullu (5 mm), Fazerina-suklaata, kaksi punaista sydäntä, mehiläisvahakynttilä (luulisin) ja SNYni itsetekemä samettipussukka sukkapuikoille, johon aida-kankaalle kirjailtu nimikirjaimistani monogrammi. Pussukan sisälle jätin vielä mukan olleet ompeluneulat ja poikaneulat (hakaneulat).

I made them with a really short leg, because I was afraid that the yarn would run out,
but what the... I still have enough yarn for at least a blanket square.

Sukat menee ilman muuta Sukkasatoon ja päättävät näin minun uurastuksen sadonkorjuussa. Kaksi paria sukkia ja yhdet kotitossut. Ihan hyvin minulta, saavutin tavoitteeni (muistaakseni =D). Sukkien kutominen ei toki jä tähän; uuden varpaista aloitetut sukat Austermannin Stepistä on jo aloitettu.

The socks will be also in Sukkasato and they are my last contribution. I've made two pairs of socks and one pair of felted slippers over a two month period. And more will be knitted after the KAL is finished.

Tässä olikin taas asiaa enemmän kuin viime aikoina yhteensä.. *tuhma bloggaaja*... Harmi kun ei voi laittaa useampaa kategoriaa näihin posteihin...

Thermalin aloitin sitten riskillä:
koon 36 mitat ja koon 38 silmukkamäärät. Todennäköisesti siitä tulee kamala lankasyöppö, mutta saanpa syyn lähteä lankakauppaan! =D Toivottavasti oikeaa väriä on vielä jäljellä- jollei, teen vartalo-osasta vaan raidallisen, mustaa ja fuksiaa, ja kokonaan mustat hihat.

Muutoin satelee suvulta joulusukkatilauksia ja niitäkin pitäisi aloitella ja itselle ja Miehekkeelle pitäisi lapasia tai sormikkaita kutoa. Eli ei yhtään mitään valmista - muutenkin pitää sellaista kiirusta koko ajan, että ei ehdi koti paljon näkemään. No, tät kestää enää puolitoista viikkoa ja sitten voin olla kotosalla jouluun asti ;-)

I started Thermal as a high risk venture:
The yarn I'm using gave the right gauge for size 36 with the stitch count of size 38... It'll eat up a lot of yarn, but that'll be my very very good excuse for going yarn shopping again. I just wish there's more of my colourway left. If not, I'll just make the body stripey with fuchsia and black and solid black sleeves.

Otherwise I'm swamped with christmasgift orders from my family - mostly socks, so it'll be fine (IF I start this week...). At the moment I've go nothing even nearly finished - I'm not even home that much nowadays. But this'll last only for two more weeks and after that I can stay at home as much as I like until Christmas.

Pakko ilmoittaa tämänpäiväisen säätilan vuoksi että kotiin on päästy. Huippuhauska viikonloppu takana, en vaihtais hetkeäkään pois. Jotenkin on iskenyt sellainen olo tänä syksynä että jokainen elää vaan kerran ja kaikki pitää ottaa irti ja kokea täydellä sydämellä. Carpe Diem!

Seuraavaksi neule-asiaan. Tein siis ohuemmasta Pirka-langasta koetilkkua Thermalia varten ja leveys on jo ilmiselvä. 10 cm on 29 silmukkaa. Ohjeesa tiheys on 28 s. Tekeekös tuo nyt sitten hurjan eron? Koetilkun korkeus ei ole vieä selvillä, taikka se ei ole saavuttanut 10 senttiä. Ohjeen vaatima 36 krs:ta on kumminkin ohitettu ajat sitten. (Langan nimellinen tiheys on 31 s/ 41-43 krs, 2,5 mm puikoilla) Kuukletin kyllä sanoilla "Gauge" ja "Knitting", ja osumat sanoivat että tärkempää on saada se leveys mätsämään.

Nyt olen liian väsyny laskemaan... Hyvää yötä!

Just came by to announce that I've managed to get back home safely. The road conditions were horrible today - in the morning there was frost and later in the evening there was a lot of rain. I just hope it won't get below zero in the night....

The weekend as awesome, Taekwon-Do all weekend long and of course good company (no knitting, though..). I've just realized that everyone only lives once (acc. to western beliefs at least) and that you have to "seize the moment" and enjoy. That's what I did - with a few set backs, but thos will not be discussed here (bruises and bloody noses and stuff.. =D).

Phew...

But, I managed to knit half-a-gauge swatch for Thermal (link in previous text). The stitch gauge is now 29 s/ 10cm (4"), but I haven't yet reached the 10 cm point in height yet, but passed the row count 36 given in the pattern... ( The yarn gauge is 31 s/ 41-43 r per 10cm on 2,5 mm needles). I googled some and found that the stitch gauge is more important (figured out that much myself), but would this make a huuuuge difference?

gah... I'll calculate some more tomorrow, now I'm waaaay too tired

Seuraavaa löytyi kumminkin keskiviikkona kaupunkireissulta (lääkärireissun jälkeen tartti ohdutusta, tartteeko enempää sanoa??):

Addin 2,5 mm 80 cm pyöröt, 2 kerää TeeTeen Alpakkaa (iiiihanan pehmeää!)
ja Anchee Minin "Madame Mao".

Ainoa jota on kokeiltu ja hiplattu on tuo kirja, jonka ostin sänkylumekiseksi kahden viikon pyöriskelyn jälkeen. Aina on pakko luea vähän jotain ennen nukahtamista. Langoille haaveilen käyttöä lapasina - älkää kysykö miksi ostin vihreää, eihän mulla ole siihen sopivaa takkiakaan... Paitsi tuo musta trenssitapainen välikauden takki joka kohta on kyllä ilmoista pätellen pantava pesun kautta talviteloille.

Addit ostin aiemmin hankittua Pirkkalankaa varten,niistä haaveilen tätä. Tänään voisi aloittaa prosessin kerimällä langat ja tekemällä vähän koeneulontaa. Ts. pelkästään keriä langan - sitä on kumminkin 1200 m eikä ole kerinlaitetta =D

Viikonlopuksi ihan muihin hommiin! Nähdään ensi viikolla!

So, I've knitted only a little, one sock is ready and the other one is waiting for inspiration. In the LYS I got another kind of inspiration - see pictures.

The Alpakkas want to become mittens when they grow up, Addis are for the earlier fuchsia and black Pirkka-yarn form earlier and Becoming Madame Mao is for my night stand (can't sleep without reading a bit in bed).

The Pirkka-hanks started to whisper to me last night and tell me, that they want to become a Thermal-sweater. I'm not sure yet, but I'll push the process forward today by winding the yarn and making a swatch. (Probably only the winding-part wil happen, there's 1200 meters of yarn to be wound ?? by hand!!)

The weekend will be spent a little differently again... See y'all next week!

Tänään valmistuivat kumminkin Miehekkeelle Ann Buddin On Your Toes-sukat (IK Summer 2007). Lankana 7 Veljestä ja tehosteraidoiksi sähkönsinistä Liisaa vuoden takaa, 3,5 mm eebenpuu-sukkapuikot. Aloitus ohjeen mukaan kärjestä, 56 s ja tiimalasikantapää. Tykkäsin ohjeesta, mutta jouduin kuitenkin kantapäässä tekemään strategisen valinnan omien hiusteni säästämiseksi ja tein kantapään Ullan ohjeella. Varren päättely ommellen tuntui suorastaan nerokkaalta ja sukan suu on nyt ekstrajoustava. Hianoa. Kun ei vain alkaisi lörpsöttämään :-S

Ai mitkä jalkalistat??? Ai nekö jotka tulee tonne lattian ja seinän kulmaan? Jaa...

Itse olen kuitenkin jotenkin pettynyt noihin sukkiin kun ne on niin, höh, tavalliset. Mieheke oli kuitenkin innoissaan kun saa huomenna metsästyssaappaisiin uudet lämmittäjät. Ja kuulemma ne on "söpöt ja erikoiset kun ne on tehty ihan väärinpäin!" Edellisellä reissulla vanhempien luo muutama äidin ystäväkin kävi niitä ihailemassa (olivat siis tekeillä suhteellisen kauan..), kun ajattelivat että olin vaan vanhoihin sukkiin kutomassa varsia... =D

Mutta, saan kummiskin ilmoittaa ne tänne!

My camera seems to be in a very crappy mood or just downright broken, so it won't work. No pics, but an FO anyway.

I finished Ann Budd's On your Toes Socks from IK Summer 2007 today. They knitted up pretty painlessly and I like the short row heel soooo much! I think it's prettier than the traditional slip-stitsch heel and it also seems to fit my BF's heel well.

Technicals: Yarn Novita 7 Veljestä (wool 75/ polyamide 15) plus atrificial yarn Liisa (electric blue), 3,5 mm ebentree needles, 56 s, knitted from the toe up.

I had to modify them a little by using the Finnish instructions from web-magazine Ulla -just to prevent my hair going gray with the wording of the heel-instructions from IK. But the sewn BO was AWESOME! The sock is now stretchy all over, and it looks good, too.

But, in the end.. I'm a little disappointed with them. They're mainly brownish-gray, just so.. eh, ordinary. But the BF was very happy with his new boot socks -he'll go hunting tomorrow... And as he puts it "the socks are cute and besides, totaly done in the wrong way!" As long as he's happy... =D

But, tomorrow I'm off to roadtripping again so I better get some sleep!

Huh huijaa... Taas melkein viikko vierähtänyt, toinen on-your-toes sukka on valmis (ja kuulemma söpö... hmmmm) ja toinen tulossa kantapäähän. Tässä ei kuitenkaan paljon neuloskella, koska kouluhommia pitää vääntää ihan hulluna ja kun olen tämän viikon yksin kotona, illat vietetään sitten treenaillen ja maantien päällä. =D

Asunnon remontti alkaa olla jo niin hyvällä malilla, että kamat sais kantaa sisälle, kun olis joku kaverina (tais olla ihan taktinen tuo Miehekkeen työmatka... hmm). Lebensraum laajeni siis viime lauantaina noin 20 neliöstä 46 neliöön! Huraa! Pinna alkoikin olla jo aika kireällä ja avoppi pelkää että saadaan kohta astma kumpikin kun täällä kaiken sotkun ja pölyn keskellä asutaan.

No pics or anything ready. Or well, the first of of On-Your-Toes is finished and the second is coiming at the heel. I just don't have too much time to knit, just a few rounds bfore falling asleep (sitting in the arm chair), because the BF just left yesterday on a business trip and as I don't like spending too much time alone at home, I've decided that this week I'll spend as much time as posible on the road and training. =D

Our place is almost done, renovaing-wise. (As some may know, I've move twice over the last six months, or even less..) Now everything is ready and we're at a point when we could carry all our stuff in if I just had someone to carry them with (I think that the business trip might've been tactical... hmmm). Last saturday as the livingroom floor was laminated, our Lebensraum, or living space, got twice as big as it had been. Now 46 out of 48 square metres are done, Hurray!! The situation before was really starting to get on our nerves and BF's mother was worrying herself sick with pictures of us living in the midst of all the tools, dust and stuff (asthma...lots to clean....)

Tein vanhanaikaiset: varjelin ja suojelin puikkoja Miehekkeeltä (sillä on tapana katkoa puikoja!) ja sitten katkaisin ne itse!! Ja tuollainen siisti katkeamisjälki, ei mitään tehtävissä omin keinoin.. Mieheke kyllä ehdotti jotain kiristyssukkaa (joku pieni muovin/johdon pätkä joka kuumennetaan ja se sitten kiristyy) Auttaiskohan? Lisäavuksi vähän liimaa.

I did an old fashioned thing: protected the needles from the BF (he tends to break my needles both unintentionally and sort of on purpose..) and then I broke them myself!! What a clean cut, nothing to be done by my own means. The BF suggested some kind of manly method to fix it (a plactic tube, which should be heated and when it starts to cool down, it will shrink) Do you reckon it would work?? With some glue, of course.

Mutta hitsi vieköön että mulla ottaa nyt kupoliin! Nuo on kivan kokoiset puikot, 3,25 mm ja niissä on metrin letku.

I'm just soooo incredibly annoyed right now! Those needles are of a really nice size and they have a meter long cable. I don't think that there are bamboo needls of this size in my LYS...

Ann Buddin On Your Toes-sukat 7-veljeksestä, 3,5mm eebenpuiset puikot. Ah ja voih noille puikoille! Mien olen ikinä voinut käyttää mitään muita puikkoja? Paksua sukkalankaa alkaa siis kulumaan tässä taloudessa runsaasti ja joulupukin luona käydään toivomassa samanmoisia puikkoja lisää pienemmässä koossa!

Ann Budd's On Your Toes-socks are knitting up nicely on my new 3,5 mm Eben needles ( sustainable eben tree needles -these are left overs from buiding musical instruments). The yarn is the infamous Finnish sock-all purpose yarn 7 Veljestä by Novita. I just have to admire those needles! They are great, awesome, perfect! Thick sock yarn will be knit in this house hold until I go to Santa and ask him to bring me some of these needles in a smaller size.

Ja tuo 7 Veljestä on Prisman kampanjaerästä. Ja ihanan rasvaista! Ei ole turhilla värikylvyillä käsitelty piloille, lanoliinia on ilmaisesti runsaasti jäljellä. Väri vain on sellainen että tuosta tulee Miehekkeelle saappaisiin metsästyssukat.

This yarn is a campaing patch for a supermarket chain and it's just awesome, too! Usually the yarn is very harsh and kills my hands, but this actually has some lanolin left in it! No extensive colourbaths for this yarn! But it means that these will be boot socks for the BF for the coming moose hunting season.

And also, I'd ike to ask any of you international readers (if there are any!!) whether I should continue to write this blog in English as well? As I'm not in any international exchanges at the moment, I will change back to one language writing if there are no requests. If you like to go on reading about my stuff, kindly leave a comment.
